Nowadays WordPress is more powerful platform for any kind of Website; but first you have to know how to use it. After you have installed WordPress, there are a few basic settings you should apply to get started. These settings are found in the WordPress admin dashboard.

Most important settings you should configure after installing WordPress.

When you installed WordPress first time, it comes with few dummy content like, a post, Page and a comment. First thing you need to do.

Delete Dummy Content

Log in to your WordPress dashboard then go to Posts > All post > Select Dummy post “Hello World” click on Move to Trash and that’s it.

Do the same thing with Pages and Comments.

And finally  hover the Mouse of Posts > Select Categories > Rename the Default category as per your condition.

Check your Title, Tagline and Time zone

And now here is the game begins for WordPress Basic Configuration

By default when you land Settings > General it shows you “Just another WordPress Website” in the Tagline Rename this as per your promise and By the way, Title and Tagline comes with prefill, these two things covers during the installation of WordPress.

and the last one is Time zone > you will find at the bottom of  page in General setting tab. Choose your time zone as per your accordingly.

Choose the Default category

Here in Writing settings you will find the “Default Post Category” option look that category which you made rename from “uncategorized to SEO“.

Setup Front Page or Blog page

By default WordPress display your blog at Homepage. What happen, if you are running a small business and you would like to display something unique rather then Post , This setting allow you to set your custom page which design, as Front Page.

To set that page as homepage: goto Settings > Reading > Front page Display > Select Static page then Select the page you design and save changes.

Comment and Discussion Setting

If you want to have comments and discussion on your post, just untouch this basic setting right it has. Basically, this setting help you to control things like user allow to comment, comments approval, auto or manually, trackback – if someone mention your post.

Media Settings

I suggest you: do not touch this setting, The default setting is too good. This basic setting make your image in different sizes which you upload.

Setup your URL Structure

This is the most Crucial Setting for your website, permalink is the URL of a post, and this setting allow you to change as given formatted.

The default WordPress permalink is – https://example.com/p=123.,

This is not a industry practice, permalink should be Search Engine Friendly and Easy to understand, a Good permalink help you yo rank higher in Search Engine and get more traffic.

in my Point of view permalink looks similiar as post title. to make it possible just Go to Settings > permalink > select “Post name” and Save changes.
